Sensitest Ovulation test dipstick

Sensitest Ovulation test dipstick

Product type: Ovulationtest
Final use by date: 24 months
Directions for use: Sensitest Ovulation Test Dipstick

How the test works
Carefully read the directions for use before you start testing. The Sensitest ovulation test is a simple way of ascertaining a woman’s 2 to 3 fertile days in the month. Some 24-48 hours before ovulation commences, the quantity of luteinizing hormone (LH) increases in the urine. Immediately before ovulation, the measurable quantity of this hormone in the urine rises sharply. This LH-peak lasts for 1 or 2 days only. After the LH content in the urine is at its highest, ovulation takes place within 24 to 48 hours. You have the best chance to become pregnant during this period, following sexual intercourse.
To find this peak, you will have to test for several consecutive days. You will first have to determine your cycle length. Take an average of the past cycles. The best day for starting to test can be read from the table. You count from the first day of your menstruation which is day 1. Continue testing until you can read off the LH peak from your test. Ovulation then occurs within 24 to 48 hours.

Timing
The test can be carried out at any time of day. Preferably not with morning urine. However, it is important that testing takes place at about the same time on all consecutive days.

What you need before testing
1. A sealed foil package with a Sensitest Ovulation Test Dipstick. Do not use an ovulation test from an opened pack.
2. A clean, dry receptacle or plastic cup.
3. Urine from the woman whose ovulation must be confirmed.

The test in 7 steps
1. Take a closed pack and check that it indicates “Ovulation Test”. Do not use a test that has passed its shelf life.
2. Collect a little urine in a clean receptacle.
3. Open the pack with the test with dry, clean hands.
4. Hold the strip at the end where the red letters LH appear on the stick and dip the other end into the receptacle with urine for about ten seconds.
5. This part may not be dipped beyond the “MAX” line.
6. Place the test on a smooth, dry base.
7. Wait 5 to 10 minutes before reading the result. It is important that the background is no longer discoloured. However, do not wait more than 30 minutes before reading the result.

• dip the dipstick in urine for 5 seconds not deeper than the max-line
Test result
The result is negative if a single pink line appears. This is the control line (C) to see whether you have carried out the test correctly. If the test line (T) is not visible or if a very faint pink appears, the body has made insufficient LH for an LH peak to be reached. The test can be interpreted as negative.

The result is positive if two pink lines appear in the same colour or if the test line (T) is darker than the control line (C). The level of LH in your body is at its highest at this point.

If no lines are visible, the test has probably been carried out incorrectly. The dipstick has possibly absorbed too little urine. Hold the dipstick in the urine again for a few seconds.

• View on this image the different phases of the LH hormone and the test result they give with the ovulation test. As soon as the LH-peak has reached its highest level you have the best chance of becoming pregnant (click on the picture for an enlargement). click for larger image

If the result is negative
If the ovulation test cannot show an LH peak after repeatedly testing on consecutive days, it is possible that you have carried the test out on the wrong days. Calculate the average length of your cycle again and carry out the test again a day later or during your next cycle. If you obtain negative results after repeated attempts, we advise to contact your family doctor or gynaecologist.

If the result is positive
If the test indicates that the LH level in your urine is at its highest, ovulation will take place within 24 to 48 hours. You have the best chance of becoming pregnant during this period, following sexual intercourse.

Restriction 1: Reliability of the ovulation test
With a 99% reliability, the Sensitest Ovulation Test Dipstick is just as reliable as a comparable test by your family doctor or gynaecologist. However, your personal medical situation may influence the result of this test. Women with polycysteus ovarium syndrome may obtain an incorrect positive result. In case of doubt, consult your family doctor or gynaecologist.

Restriction 2: Using alcohol
Alcohol can influence the test result. Do not use ovulation tests after taking alcohol.

Restriction 3: Don’t use as a contraception method
Don’t use the ovulation test as a contraception method. Since sperm can remain active for a number of days, the chance of becoming pregnant remains.

Restriction 4: Applying the test
This test may be used only with collected urine. If you require an ovulation test to hold in the urine stream, use the Sensitest Ovulation Test Midstream.
